ACCESSIBILITY + FINE ART INSTALLATION + HUMAN INTERACTION
paintings For the visually impaired
THE CHALLENGE
How can we include those with vision disabilities so they may enjoy Fine Art museums, galleries and art walks when the majority are to be seen or heard.
UX Designer/Gallery Artist - Jason Matsune
SOLUTION:
These dimensional paintings were created for a gallery setting in Downtown Seattle. The substrate was made from plywood sheets and carefully shaped wood that demonstrated different heights. The guests were encouraged to experience the art through touch. Some guests even took the smaller paintings off the wall to experience the painting. There were two sets, Radio Waves and Palm Readers.
Accessibility through art and design where we can include the visually impaired. In turn, those who can see, will experience the cast shadows of the vertical heights as they contrast against canvas. Where some guests experienced the harsh lighting, others felt the tension created by the shaped wood pushing through the canvas.
